How to bring a photo to life: turning one photo into a short video

How to animate a photo with a neural network

Briefly about the main thing (BLUF)

You can animate a photo in a couple of minutes: one photo turns into a short video where a person blinks, smiles or turns his head. We show you step by step which photos come to life well, how much it costs and how to do without manual adjustments.

A photo from the dacha, where everyone is standing motionless. Or a photo from the sea where a wave froze. You look at this and you want the picture to move a little. Previously, only video editors with a week of free time could do this. Now the neural network does this in a couple of minutes.

Technically the thing is called image-to-video. You take one frame, and the neural network completes what was not there: a split second of movement. The wind touches the leaves, the water ripples, the man blinks. The output is a video for a few seconds.

One important point to avoid false expectations: the model does not “improve” the photo, but thinks out movement. The murkier the source, the weirder the face may turn out. Not every photo comes to life well - more on that below.

Bringing a photo to life: a still landscape turns into a short video with movement

Which photos come to life well - and which ones don't?

There is no magic: the quality of the result depends on the quality of the source. Three things that matter most.

  • Large object in focus. A waist-length portrait, a landscape with a clear foreground - ideal. A small group photo of ten people is a bad idea; the model will blur everyone at once.
  • One main plot. If there are three different stories in the frame at the same time, the movement turns out to be jagged and meaningless.
  • Fresh and clear frame. The ancient scanned image will also come to life, but be prepared for artifacts on the face.

How to bring a photo to life with us, step by step

The whole journey takes about three minutes if you know where to press.

  1. Opening "Video" section.
  2. Select a family from the drop-down list of models SeeDance, and in the version - SeeDance V1.5 Pro. She is the one who knows how to bring one photo to life.
  3. Click “Select Image” and upload the photo.
  4. Describe the movement in words. Not “bring it to life,” but more specifically: “a light wind shakes your hair, the water ripples, the camera zooms in slowly.”
  5. Click “Generate video” and wait a couple of minutes.

How much does it cost

Briefly: pay in tokens, 1 token is approximately 1 ruble. The price depends on the duration and quality - a short video in HD costs about 20 tokens, low resolution is cheaper, maximum resolution is more expensive. The exact amount is shown directly on the page before the launch, so there are no surprises.

And one more thing that is nice to know in advance: if the generation fails with an error, the tokens are returned automatically - you do not pay for the defect.

Bringing a photo to life: waves, seagulls and sunset - movement born from one frame

Life hack: a ready-made trend instead of manual adjustment

If you don’t want to bother with choosing a model and resolution, on the page "Trends" There is a ready-made card “Live a photo” - from 7 tokens. It is already configured for the same model: upload your photo and get a video in one click, without fiddling with the settings.

And if the photo not only needs to be revived, but first restored - scratches, faded film, tears - this is a separate task, and we have separate ready-made trend “Restore and decorate photos”.

Bringing a photo to life is easier than it sounds. Upload a photo, describe the movement, then use the neural network. Works. Verified.
